Respect for the Enemy.

Can someone explain to me two very important things:
1. Why is Guantanamo Bay still open?
and
2. Why do we keep our prisoners there?

Last I checked Cuba and the USA were not the best of friends, so can someone explain to me why we would keep our political prisoners there?

The following video is hard to watch. It is difficult, but it is relevant. I am sad that Mos Def went through this situation, though I am proud of him for bringing this issue to a forefront.

"If you want to make peace with your enemy, you have to work with your enemy. Then he becomes your partner."
- Nelson Mandela.

"But who prays for Satan? Who, in eighteen centuries, has had the common humanity to pray for the one sinner that needed it most?"
- Mark Twain

"It is easy enough to be friendly to one's friends. But to befriend the one who regards himself as your enemy is the quintessence of true religion. The other is mere business."
- Mahatma Ghandi

"In taking revenge, a man is but even with his enemy; but in passing it over, he is superior."
- Francis Bacon

"Racism is a refuge for the ignorant. It seeks to divide and to destroy. It is the enemy of freedom, and deserves to be met head-on and stamped out."

Stoplights are a Go.

I was on StumbleUpon (one of my favorite websites) and came across this concept for a new stoplight. I find the idea intriguing and think it would help with traffic quite a bit, because you'll know exactly how much time is being spent while at a stoplight.

The concept is simple as you can see. The hourglass shows how much 'sand' is left before the color changes. In the case of a yellow light it shows you how much time is left before you are either able to go or how much time you have to stop.

However, this thought on time swiftly followed the traffic lights leaving me wondering if traffic lights that show how time runs out would be a good idea after all?

I can't imagine life without time. I can't imagine not having an i-phone or a clock or a computer somewhere near by to tell me what time of day it is. What did our ancestors do before they began marking the passing of time with sundials? Did they worry over all the things we worry over now? Did they imagine their time, their lives, slipping like sand through a vast hourglass, slowly disappearing?

We have a tendency to see time as a finite thing. A thing that ends. And it does, in a sense. For all of us the clock will eventually cease to tick, the sand cease to fall, the sun cease to set. We end, therefore, for us, time ends.

Time however is immeasurable. It is like taffy, pulled out into endless ropes of forever. It pulls further and further. We do not have the capability to even begin to comprehend the infinite amount of time there is stretching out before us. Yawning out like a black chasm, an endlessly long tunnel.

I think that makes it scary. Time will go on. Life will go on. We won't. We will end. Everything ends. But even after everything is gone, there will still be time. In the abyss of everything there will always be time.

Bunraku

A while back I posted a blog about what I was looking forward to in movies, books, video games and music. (http://saraicrazyblog.blogspot.com/2011/10/oh-lists-you-shall-read.html)

The very first on my list of movies was "Bunraku" Gackt's movie with Joshua Hartnett. About a month ago I went ahead and purchased the film (it was $10, the same amount I would've spent to see it in theatres if I had known it was playing). However, I didn't watch it immediately. Once I actually got it home I was nervous that it wasn't going to be very good and I was going to be disappointed.

Being sick does funny things to you. Last night, after I re-watched "Inception", I decided to go ahead and take the plunge and watch "Bunraku." Well, first I watched the trailer, which I realized I'd never seen. I like watching trailers for movies. They give you a taste of what to expect from the film. They give you a peek into the acting, the cinematography, the mood of the film, if you will. Before I go into the film, watch the trailer below. Let it sink in before reading on.

Okay, you've watched the trailer (or not, depending). The first thing you'll notice about this trailer is the style in which it is filmed. There is a lot of different lighting and it has a very staged look to it. In fact, that is one of the things I enjoyed most about the film. The cinematography was brilliantly done. However, if you aren't used to it, it can be a little weird and draw attention away from the movie itself. The reason for this style? Well, from what I have been reading "Bunraku" is a type of Japanese puppet theatre. If you take that into account while watching this movie (and Woody Harrelson's love of pop-up books), you suddenly completely understand why they couldn't do a movie titled "Bunraku" in any other style.

The other thing that was interesting was the almost comic book like atmosphere. It was a very interesting way of filming it. Almost all the sets were real, not CGI, not green screen. They were built. Which is so rare in movies now-a-days. It's nice to see someone using their imagination and their hands to create a set, rather than using a computer to do it for them.

It plays off of old Spaghetti westerns and 80's samurai movies. As well as the comic book style, puppet theatre and gangster-ish style. It was brilliant, actually. I thought. I also found the acting to be rather superb.

Joshua Hartnett - He plays a character simply titled "The Drifter." As Woody Harrelson's character points out later (we'll get to him in a moment) he is a "cowboy" in a "world without guns." Which is very true. He also has a moderate to severe fear of heights, giving him a little realism in my opinion. And he is gorgeous. Did I mention that?

Gackt - He plays "Yoshi", a "young" Japanese man looking for a lost family memento. A dragon medallion. I was actually very impressed with Gackt's debut in an English film. His English was perfect for the character and actually much better than I thought it would be. I know the man is fluent in it, but being fluent doesn't always mean you get it right. I also love how he is portrayed as being rather naive and younger than Joshua Hartnett, when in reality he is almost ten years Joshua's senior.

Woody Harrelson - He plays the bartender who loves pop-ups. He has even created a book about a hero named Arachnid. Or if you like, Spiderman, in an alternate universe set roundabout the 1930's. Also, never tell him it doesn't matter which whisky. He'll give you the most expensive one. Which is 55 for a swallow.

Ron Perlman - This was the wild card character in my opinion. I had no idea what to expect from Ron Perlman as far as this movie went. Truly, I had no clue. But his portrayal of "The Woodcutter" aka "Nicola" was superb. I knew he was a great actor, but I suppose I'd never seen him quite like this. Also, I never realized how fucking HUGE this man is. Seriously. He could probably fit Demi Moore's entire face in his mouth! Okay, that's an exaggeration, but seriously he is f-ing big.

Speaking of Demi Moore - She has a small part, really. But her part was interesting. At least to me it was. She plays the lover of Ron Perlman, a former lover of another character. No spoilers for you, because you can figure it out pretty quickly. Her part is brief, but it adds a little something to the film. A certain je ne sais quoi if you will.

There are a few other interesting characters in this little drama. Number one among them is Number 2 killer. He is played by Kevin McKidd. His style of fighting is intriguing and he has a fabulous accent. I also loved his glasses and overall style of dress. It is safe to say that this comic book movie is a mix of 1930's gangster, 1800's cowboy and 1800's samurai.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this film and it was worth my wait. Opinions are as numerous as flies of course and can sometimes be just as annoying. So I won't say you have to watch this film (except you do) and that you have to love it (because you must). I'm just saying give it a chance and you may be surprised at what happens.

Favorite lines from the movie:

"Do you want to know what took me so long?" - Yoshi (aka: Gackt)
"Not really." - The Drifter (aka: Joshua Hartnett)

"There is always someone more powerful than you." - Nicola (aka: Ron Perlman)

"You wanna kill a man like me, son? You better stab me in the back. That's the catch. Honorable men, well, they die hard, but they still die. It's men like me who survive and conquer. Men like me understand that the fight is not about who's right, but about who's left." - Nicola

"Great lessons are often found in defeat." - Yoshi

"I'm the product of a fucked up generation." - The Drifter

"Sh! Did you hear that...? My bed is calling me." - The Bartender (aka: Woody Harrelson)

"Spiders... don't have superpowers." - Yoshi
"But they can climb walls." - The Bartender

Glow in the Dark

Me: Is it weird that I want to tie a glow stick to a kite so I can fly it at night? I'm thinking that should go in my story, now that I mention it. But will a glow stick make the kite too heavy? Now I have to test it!! Quick, I need three glow sticks (one for the experiment and two just for fun) and a kite! :D Who cares that it is February?

Adam: Do it.

Me: Adam, why can't you be here to test this with me?!

Adam: My spirit is on its way as we speak. What part of the country am I headed to again?

Me: Second star to the right and straight on 'til morning :P

Adam: Hey!!! It's morning already!! I must be close. Still seeing lots of snow though...

Me: Well there isn't any snow here, so you may be heading the wrong direction. lol

Adam: Coming in from the Arctic circle. I can see the snow line now :-)

Me: I am thinking you went a little off course there, Adam.

Adam: the shortest distance between two lines doesn't take into consideration how things appear on a map... :-P

Me: Adam, you are amazing. I ♥ you. ^_^

Adam: listening to your crazy ideas inspires me. It reminds me of the crazy ideas I used to have. Thank you!!

I heart my friends! ^_^

Lyrical Madness

I was listening to Maroon 5 (a band that I've liked for a really long time) and thinking about lyrics that I really like/identify with. And this song by them, I think has the most of them. I always think of one particular person when I hear these lyrics. That used to be painful. It still stings, but not like it used to. If that makes any sense.

The lyrics that make me think with this song are:
"Give me something to believe in, 'cause I don't believe in you anymore. Anymore. I wonder if it even makes a difference to try."

To me those are such powerful lyrics. Aren't we all searching for something to believe in? If you can't believe in someone that you love (or used to love) does it make a difference?

I read, once, that Hate is what happens when you have lost all belief/faith in someone. Now, that is not always true, but it is true quite often. Think about it, the people that you hate the most, did you used to love them? Did you used to believe in them, as if they were a God or a myth? I know that I have felt that way before.

This isn't my favorite song by Maroon 5, though I have many that I love by them. I just genuinely enjoy this particular song for the lyrics. And Adam Levine always livens up my mood. ;)

Starting Young

Little boy talking to his mom in the women's bathroom: Mommy my penis is really big!
Mom to little boy: That's not really something we talk about in public.
Little boy whispers: But Mommy, my penis is really big!

And all I could think was "they start bragging early these days..."

A Romeo and Juliet Complex

What is so romantic about Romeo and Juliet? I mean, seriously, why do we think of that as being the epitome of tragic romance? Romeo and Juliet's love is so pure, so innocent, so perfectly tragic.

Is it because they die to be together? Is that something we should strive for? Dying together? It adds a new dimension to "'til death do us part", I suppose. However, that brings me to another question.

Is love worth dying for?

Not that I'm knocking love, because it is great to be in love. I love my husband with everything I have inside of me. And I would die for him. If it came down to his life or mine, I'd gladly give mine up. Because I love him.

But that is a little different than killing yourself for someone, I think.

If Donnie died, I would be devastated. Would I kill myself? Would life be completely and totally without meaning after he was gone from it? I'd like to believe that I would continue living, if only because I know that he would want me to. I know that he wouldn't want me to end my life, just because he was gone. Besides that, it is such a waste of life.

Suicide in general, is such a waste of life. I'm not saying that to be harsh. I understand, better than most, the thoughts and the terrible anguish that can often drive one to committing what the Catholics call "the unforgivable sin." But suicide is selfish as well, even if you think you are doing it for the "right reason" (not that there are any 'right reasons' for killing yourself).

And speaking of selfishness, is it selfish to continue living when the person you were madly and truly in love with passes on? Is it selfish to want to continue to live when that person is gone?

Shakespeare was a genius, I will give him that. He created the perfect story, one that still has power after so many years. But the power is more in that we misinterpret it.

Yes, Romeo and Juliet were in love. Yes, they killed themselves to be together.

But Romeo was just "in love" with another girl. Rosalind. And Juliet is thirteen, what the hell does she know about love? I guess, even though it is one of my favorite plays, Romeo and Juliet are really just two teenagers who have an instant attraction to one another. So much so that they decide to get married. Which is really stupid, considering that Juliet is engaged. And not to Romeo.

Then, because Romeo kills Juliet's cousin (which, I don't know about you, but that would kill any romance for me. If Donnie killed one of my cousins I'd be damn upset!) he gets banished. This is where Juliet should've come clean. She doesn't, pretends to be dead and then ends up really dead after Romeo thinks she's dead and offs himself.

To be fair though, Juliet's dying monologue is beautifully written and one of my favorite passages from the play.

"What's here? A cup closed in my true love's hand?
Poison, I see, hath been his timeless end.
O churl! Drunk all, and left no friendly drop to help me after? I will kiss thy lips.
Haply some posion yet doth hang on them to make me die with a restorative.
Thy lips are warm!
Yea, noise?
Then I'll be brief.
O happy dagger!
This is thy sheath; there rust, and let me die."

It is a beautiful and tragic play. Teenaged love, murder, suicide, secret weddings and ridiculous family feuds.

I have rambled enough, I think. I never did actually answer my own question... Why do we think that Romeo and Juliet is romantic? I don't know.

Because we think that it is true love? Because we think there is nothing purer than the love two star-crossed lovers (aka: stupid teenagers) have for each other? Something to think about, I guess.

Quote Me

Donnie: You know what's nice?
Me: What?
Donnie: Lesbians. Lesbians are nice.
Me: Thanks for that.

Me: You're not allowed to die. Because if you do, who will I have sex with?
Pomme: Oh my god!
Donnie: Fawn.
Pomme: AHHH!!!
Donnie: Problem Solved.

Pomme: Ya know I would question Sarai more, but then I look at who she is married to and all my questions disappear.

Derrick J: To paraphrase Scotty, "I'm givin' it all I've got, world, not to punch ye in the face! If ye push my engines any further they'll tell ye to blow me!"

Me: You know it is Halloween when you turn on your car and the radio is playing "Ghostbusters".

Me: Don't be a cunt muffin!!

Donnie: Waffle cones are superior to cake cones. Discuss.

Me: I swear to god, I will flick you in the tit.
Pomme: Umma! Not only is that child abuse, its awkward!
Donnie: That's the point. If its awkward enough they won't report the child abuse to the police.
Pomme: That's fucked up.

Me: My Swedish Meatballs box says to stir the macaroni and cheese. Except, its Swedish Meatballs... Where did the mac and cheese come from?

Me: You know what really makes the "White and Nerdy" music video by Weird Al? Donny Osmond dancing like an idiot in the background. That part just never gets old.

Me: Of all the gin joints in all the world, she had to karaoke in mine.

Joe T: Oh, c'mon! You can't fool me! You gay park your car all of the time! (Are your pants on fire, yet?) :-)
Jaime N: Did u at least lezbo park it? lol

Pomme: So Sarai and Donnie had their troll flakes this morning!! DID YOU?

Donnie: My name is Pajamy and I LOVE nightwear!
Adam C.: Pajamy, meet Teddy :-)

Uncle Jerry: Hay, you forgot to tell me it was your birthday. Great Uncles don't know about these things 'caus we don't have birthdays anymore. HAVE A HAPPY ONE!!!!!!

Kid: HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOU CRAZY ASS LEPRECHAUN.

Me: Also, Donnie needs to stop breathing leaves... just sayin'.

Mom: They are liquidating their cattle.
Me: Ew! No one wants liquid cattle!

Thanksgiving will never be the same again.

Facebook is a strange place. However there is a fun thing that I just decided to do at random and the resulting conversation occurred.

Fawn: No... Japanese boys pretending to be girls, pretending to be boys, pretending to be girls, riding those unicorns, and it would be a PERFECT Thanksgiving, I'd be thankful for that... 1 wish, and Aoi in front of me, what's more perfect than that?

Me: Oh my.... That's why you get mad too. Unicorns no longer grant wishes...

Pomme: O_O now I am scared...

Things Men Do That Piss Me Off.

AKA:

Things that Men in Movies/Television/Books do that Pisses Me off

First example is from this drama that Pomme and I are watching right now. It is called "A Prince's First Love" and whilst I know (in my head, though my heart wants something else to happen) that because of this title (and K-drama standard plot twists) that the girl is going to end up with him, I really don't want her to. Granted there is always a chance that I (and Pomme) could be wrong, I'm pretty sure I (we) are correct in this assumption.

Gun-Hee (the main male lead aside from Mr. Cha) is currently being a total prick. My reasoning for this is because he seems to believe that just because his family is rich and he is handsome that he can have any girl he wants. Including the heroine of this drama, Yu-Bin. Not only that but he also seems to believe that if he treats her like crap she will fall into, not only his arms, but his bed as well.

And when she really needs him, what does he do? He plays the arrogant asshole who refuses to her face and then goes behind her back to fix it. Which doesn't work, btw.

"I think all women are easy."

Edward Cullen (yep, I went there). Where to even begin. Seriously, everything this man does is wrong. He plays with Bella's emotions, breaks into her room and watches her sleep (which is a criminal offense ladies and gentlemen, not romantic), breaks her car so she can't go somewhere, treats her like a yo-yo and threatens to EAT her. And we're NOT talking cunnilingus. In fact, he avoids sex all together. At least, until he marries her and then he practically rapes her. Because that's romantic right?

My biggest qualm with Edward is the abusive way he plays with Bella's emotions. He tells her he loves her and then he leaves her. He threatens to eat her (once again, not a happy eating), but then avoids her all together. He is constantly saying one thing and doing another. Or abandoning her all together.

"I know you think that I have some kind of perfect, unyielding self-control, but thats not actually the case."

In various movies/books/tv shows, there are a lot of men who are obviously abusive, however they always get the girl. Reasons behind this are because nobody apparently realizes that it is abusive. A prime example of this is the scene from "The Notebook" where Noah asks Allie out. By threatening to kill himself by letting go at the top of a ferris wheel.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8ldUWIruvs

That, ladies, is a form of abusive. Not romantic. It forces you to make a decision out of distress. Not because you care, necessarily, but because you are being pressured with the threat of bodily harm. Not even harm toward you. Mental abuse is the most prevalent form of abuse, partially because what constitutes mental abuse can be masked. In this example it is masked by being passionate and romantic. It is NOT passionate, nor is it romantic to threaten to kill yourself so that you get your way. Grow the fuck up.

"Would you stay with me?"

Anywho, that is my little rant for right now. I'm sure I'll expound upon this particular topic further in the future. But for now I'm going to go to bed. Ponder what I've said my pretties.

Friends for the Win

Me: "If I die young, bury me in satin."

Joe T.: Okay. What's young?

David: "lay me down in a bed of roses"

Cydni: "sink me in the river at dawn, send me away with the words of a love songggggggg. ♥"

Joe T.: Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. Oh. Wait. That's a book title. Sorry. My bad.

Felisha: "whoa o whoa o..."

Joe N.: bury me with my money....the whole 4 bucks

L.E.D.: LOL. OH YEAH. TOTALLY GONNA DO THAT!

Me: I have some awesome friends right here. Just sayin'.

The Holocaust Memorial Museum

At the Gates of Auschwitz
What is to become of us if no one reads our names or counts the shoes we left behind?
What is to become of us if no one dares remember the torture or the anguish?
What is to become of those who died before us? Those that died with us?
What is to become of us when young women and young men forget the meaning of bravery?
What is to become of us when little girls and little boys grow up not knowing the truth?

I saw her face in the tower of pictures. Her face was almost mine. Few subtle differences and we could've been sisters. A gypsy's face in a sea of faces, all lost to ignorance and blind hatred. All lost in a sea of broken humanity. My fate could've been her's if we were to switch places. And that knowledge is like a punch in the throat. I can't breathe when I look at her. I can't think anything except that she could've been me.

Standing at the gates of Auschwitz, I hesitate. I don't want to feel what I am feeling. This place is full of ghosts. Not the ghosts of stories or movies, the intangible that frighten us with their intangibility. These are real people pressing against me, real faces staring blankly at me. These are real people whose genitals have been sewn shut and whose brains are exposed to high pressure winds. These are real people who are tortured and gassed and tattooed like cattle. These are real children that are starved and mutilated in the name of science, in the name of Aryan science.

These are the faces of the Holocaust. The Jews, the Gypsys, the Homosexuals, the Catholic priests and nuns, the disabled and mentally handicapped. Those who believed differently, those who believed in equality and fought for the lives of others. These are the faces of those who stood up while the whole world held its breath and twiddled its thumbs. These faces could have been mine or yours.

If no one smells the death and the fear, if no one reads the names, if no one stands up when everyone else is sitting down, what becomes of them? What becomes of us? Could we be as brave? Could we face those who were murdered for our silence?

If there is no one left to remember, what becomes of us?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was inspired by my walk through the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC.

While in DC I took my notebook everywhere, so I could remember everything to blog it later. I took a lot of pictures and videos too, to keep track, to remember.

I am proud that I still have the ability to feel. Even remembering what I saw and heard, what I read and witnessed, second hand, makes my stomach churn and my eyes fill with tears.

If we all turn blind eyes to atrocities and prejudices what becomes of us?

Some of the things I wrote in my notebook while walking the museum:
* The museum is full of ghosts, but not the kind you find in stories or movies. These ghosts have a heavy presence because of the photos. Their faces stay, even after the photos are gone.
* Standing at the gates of Auschwitz while listening to recordings of the dead and their stories. (They weren't actual gates, they were doors to one of the many buildings in Auschwitz, but my feeling was that of standing before Auschwitz in winter, feeling chilled and horrified)
* Could I ever be so brave?
* What happens if no one reads the names or counts the shoes?

The thing that inspired me most was this exhibit that was nothing but shoes. This exhibit was on loan from a Poland museum. It was one of the most horrifyingly devastatingly real exhibits I've ever experienced. You could smell the death, the fear, the sweat and blood. It made everything so horrifyingly real. I don't think I've ever felt something punch me so hard in the stomach and the heart.

Sometimes we become so desensitized to violence and gore because of the books, music and movies that we have now-a-days. Things become so surreal to us at that point. We don't believe it is real, even though we know it is. And that was so real to me. Seeing those shoes, those empty shoes. Smelling them. Being so close I could've reached out and touched them. Little children wore those shoes. Pregnant women and old men wore those shoes. Before they were brutally killed or tortured or experimented on.

The other thing that inspired me was the small poem that was above the shoes. It is by Moishe Shulstein, a Yiddish poet. It is titled "I Saw a Mountain."

"We are the shoes, we are the last witnesses.
We are shoes from grandchildren and grandfathers,
From Prague, Paris and Amsterdam,
And because we are only made of fabric and leather
And not of blood and flesh, each one of us avoided the hellfire."

The most frightening thing that I learned, aside from the experimentation on prisoners (which I knew a good portion of), was the fact that Germany (and consequently Hitler) was emulating the racist policies in the United States. Especially the Jim Crow laws. They began to mark benches and fountains to separate Jews from Aryans.

Other frightening things were the forced sterilizations and euthanasia of people, most of them weren't even Jewish or disabled. Most of them were regular Germans. Even though the program was originally created to prevent the population of Jews and mentally challenged people.

The last thing I would like to post here (I will probably blog about this more on a future date) is a little poem by Yevgeny Yevtushenko, a Russian poet.

"The wild grasses rustle over Babi Yar.
The trees look ominous,
like judges.
Here all things scream silently,
and, baring my head,
slowly I feel myself
turning gray.
And I myself
am one massive, soundless scream
above the thousand thousand buried here."

What did you say?

Chris: Besides I have a whoopie cake to eat.
Pomegranate: Did you just say wookie?
Chris: NO! I said whoopie! What the hell is in a WOOKIE cake? What's in a Wookie cake?
Pomegranate: Lots of hair.
Chris: No, that's a wookie PIE.

Quote of the Night

Me (to Jamal): If I hadn't gotten married, you still wouldn't have your money.
Pomme: There you go, Jamal, let's get married so we can get money.
Jamal: O.O
Me: *falls to the floor laughing my ass off*

Donnie, Ladies and Gentlemen

Oh, the Crazy Things We will Say!

Donnie: Damn Vampires.
Me: Yeah, always trying to take my Count Chocula Cereal.

Kid: I don't think Strawberry Shortcake would appreciate that they are selling her. Especially for 50 cents off.
Me: That's how toe (an affected version of tore) up she is.

L.E.D. (In movie voice over voice) Bruce Storm...
Me: (In same movie voice over voice) Real Estate Agent. Awh Yeah!

Quote of the day (over heard whilst handing out fruit during my second job as a sample lady): Did you get her pie?!

Kid: I need windshield wiper fluid, not new windshield wipers.
Me: (straight faced) I know, but look, it says Windshield wipers and refills!
Kid: I'm going to punch you in the face.
Me: *giggle*

Me: Why did a Madonna mood have to hit at 1 in the morning?!

Donnie: I had sex with every melon on the stand.
Jamal: They're not even robots!

Me: But I put on my brave face and strap on my big girl shoes and suck it up. (You know, this could be taken for something completely wrong.)

Mom: I blame you that the Safety Dance kept me awake last night!!!
Me: You know that you love it and you KNOW that you are thankful that I showed that awesome video to you.

Me: Apparently it is "Sarai is trying to blog let's all start talking to her at once" time. I thought it was only 11:43.

Me: Kyle. I'm drunk texting you. Lol
Kyle: I love you.

Me: I'm thinking I'm now in love with fresh mozzarella.

Donnie: (Very Seriously) Bacon.

Me: I wish you would listen to me when I'm whispering so that I didn't spend half of my time shouting.

Zach: God, you're such a tease!

Me: I even love you times Gackt!

Donnie: It could be worse; you could be black.
Jamal (My roomie, who so happens to be Black): He's right. It could be worse. You could be black!

Donnie: Hey Jamal,
Jamal: Yes, Donnie, I know I'm black.
Donnie: You fucking racist! That's not what I was going to say at all!

Now, some quotes about Zombies (and one from a Zombie!).

Yeah, I know I'm ugly... I said to a bartender, 'Make me a zombie.' He said 'God beat me to it.'
- Rodney Dangerfield

I used to lie in bed in my flat and imagine what would happen if there was a zombie attack.
- Simon Pegg

"Get that damn screwdriver out of my head!"
- Zombie (from "Return of the Living Dead Part Two")

And what about Zombies? You never hear from Zombies! That's the trouble with Zombies, they're unreliable! I say if you're going to go for the Angel bullshit you might as well go for the Zombie package as well.
- George Carlin

The purpose of man's life...is to become an abject zombie who serves a purpose he does not know, for reasons he is not to question.
- Ayn Rand

A really funny poem about Zombies that I found on a website called AllPoetry.com.

Unicorns VS Zombies
A luscious coat, a fiery eye,
creatures lashing out like a storm in the sky.
Hoof-beats of thunder, lightning reflexes
an ominous call that aptly perplexes...

Known mostly for beauty, rarely their power,
o'er many foes a unicorn will tower;
a flash of silver is all to be seen
before from your bones your flesh they will glean...

But only if you're mean.

Ravenous idiots claw at your face
intentions weak and strength displaced.
They'll gnaw on your skull, seeming irate
but rotten gums can hardly seal in your fate.

They're slow and they're lonely, communicate not.
Can't get anywhere fast and don't know a whole lot.
Making noises that sound like their mouth is still shut
claiming that upon brains they're going to glut...

Unicorns totally kick zombie-butt.

A love poem for a Zombie!

Zombie Love Song (even cooler, it is a Haiku Zombie love poem!)
You are my desire.
Eating your luscious love thoughts
My Junk Just Dropped Off
- Christopher Moore(author of You Suck: A Love Story)

Warning: Zombies can (and often will) eat, disfigure, harm, chase, fall in love with, marry, kill, hunt and/or choose you at any time. You should always keep your shotguns handy and always aim for the head. If, for whatever reason, one of your family, friends, acquaintances, enemies and/or unknown clowns is eaten, disfigured, harmed, chased, in love with, married to, killed, hunted and/or chosen by a zombie feel free to aim for the head. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. Yes, life with zombies is like Monopoly.

This warning was brought to you by the Mothers Against Zombies Coalition of Southern Nowhere (MAZCSN).

Thank You for reading and remember, do your part and appreciate a zombie by doing it a favor and sending it back to the grave!

Mark Twain

After searching for a particular Mark Twain quote (see previous blog) I read through several more of his quotations and have discovered that Mark Twain was a genius. I knew that he was a wonderful writer (I loved "Tom Sawyer"), but had never really read some of the quotes he has. They are magnificent! He has such wit and intelligence, that indeed, I think he may be a god. It was like being a parched and dying man in the desert suddenly finding a wealth of water he hadn't noticed before. That is just how I feel now, as if I am suddenly full of fresh water that I had not known was in existence.

My solution to this? I'm going to borrow a bunch of Mark Twain books. And I'm going to post several quotes that I found by this remarkable and wonderful man, who had gone quite under-appreciated by me. I'm sorry Mark Twain, I owe you a cookie! Also, I'm thinking of making him a deity. We need a religion based on Mark Twain's words. We should call it Twainism!

"I would much prefer to suffer from the clean incision of an honest lancet than from a sweetened poison."

"A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes."

"Never tell the truth to people who are not worthy of it."

"In a good bookroom you feel in some mysterious way that you are absorbing the wisdom contained in all the books through your skin, without even opening them." (I agree completely!)

"But who prays for Satan? Who, in eighteen centuries, has had the common humanity to pray for the one sinner that needed it most?" (This is something I used to worry about as a child. I never understood why we weren't supposed to pray for Satan, when the Bible says that we should pray for our enemies. Not only that, but couldn't Satan be saved? He was an angel once? But then you get into the "unforgivable sin", which who even understands what that is?)

"Wrinkles should merely indicate where the smiles have been."

"You believe in a book that has talking animals, wizards, witches, demons, sticks turning into snakes, burning bushes, food falling from the sky, people walking on water, and all sorts of magical, absurd and primitive stories, and you say that we are the ones that need help?" (Funny thing, I know exactly where almost all these references are in the Bible)

"I did not attend his funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it."

"Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society."

"Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please."

"Sanity and happiness are an impossible combination."

"Never allow someone to be your priority while allowing yourself to be their option."

"Life is short, Break the Rules.
Forgive quickly, Kiss SLOWLY.
Love truly. Laugh uncontrollably
And never regret ANYTHING
That makes you smile." (did not know that Mark Twain said this, but I have always appreciated this bit of wisdom.)

"A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining, but wants it back the minute it begins to rain."

"Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it."

"I haven't any right to criticize books, and I don't do it except when I hate them. I often want to criticize Jane Austen, but her books madden me so that I can't conceal my frenzy from the reader; and therefore I have to stop every time I begin. Every time I read Pride and Prejudice I want to dig her up and beat her over the skull with her own shin-bone. -Letter to Joseph Twichell, 9/13/1898" (I'm not entirely sure why Mr. Twain didn't like Jane Austen, but he didn't like her much because he talks about her a lot!)

"History doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme."

"I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it."

"Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see."

"The most interesting information come from children, for they tell all they know and then stop."

"When angry, count four. When very angry, swear."

"I didn't have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead."

"Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it."

"If animals could speak, the dog would be a blundering outspoken fellow; but the cat would have the rare grace of never saying a word too much." (Have to love a man that appreciates cats!)

"When we remember we are all mad, the mysteries disappear and life stands explained."

"Out of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind the most."

"Denial is much more then an Egyptian River."

"While the rest of the species is descended from apes, redheads are descended from cats."

"We are all stupid, just on different subjects"

"It is curious that physical courage should be so common in the world and moral courage so rare."

"There are many humorous things in the world; among them, the white man's notion that he less savage than the other savages."

"There was never yet an uninteresting life. Such a thing is an impossibility. Inside of the dullest exterior there is a drama, a comedy, and a tragedy."

"Why waste your money looking up your family tree? Just go into politics and your opponent will do it for you." (I'm thinking about all this stupidity over Obama's birth certificate!)

"If we were supposed to talk more than listen we would have been given two mouths and one ear."

"[The Bible] has noble poetry in it... and some good morals and a wealth of obscenity, and upwards of a thousand lies."

"There is a charm about the forbidden that makes it unspeakably desirable."

"My books are water; those of the great geniuses are wine.(Fortunately) Everybody drinks water."

"Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured."

"Action speaks louder than words but not nearly as often."

"The right word may be effective, but no word was ever as effective as a rightly timed pause."

"We need not worry so much about what man descends from; it's what he descends to that shames the human race." (All the ridiculous people who run their mouths about things they don't even know or understand, I am looking at you right now!)

"I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him."

"Golf is a good walk spoiled." (Sorry to everyone that actually enjoys golfing!)

"Last week I stated that this woman was the ugliest woman I had ever seen. I have since been visited by her sister and now wish to withdraw that statement."

"Let us live so that when we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry."

"The Rumors of my Death Have Been Greatly Exaggerated."

"If Christ were here now there is one thing he would not be – a Christian." (Very true!)

"Unconsciously we all have a standard by which we measure other men, and if we examine closely we find that this standard is a very simple one, and is this: we admire them, we envy them, for great qualities we ourselves lack. Hero worship consists in just that. Our heroes are men who do things which we recognize, with regret, and sometimes with a secret shame, that we cannot do. We find not much in ourselves to admire, we are always privately wanting to be like somebody else. If everybody was satisfied with himself, there would be no heroes."

"Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day." (YUCK!)

"Love is an irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired."

"We may not pay Satan reverence, for that would be indiscreet, but we can at least respect his talents."

"Why do you sit there looking like an envelope without any address on it?"

"Don't wake up a woman in love. Let her dream, so that she does not weep when she returns to her bitter reality"

"I know the look of an apple that is roasting and sizzling on the hearth on a winter's evening, and I know the comfort that comes of eating it hot, along with some sugar and a drench of cream... I know how the nuts taken in conjunction with winter apples, cider, and doughnuts, make old people's tales and old jokes sound fresh and crisp and enchanting."

"A half-truth is the most cowardly of lies."

"The radical of one century is the conservative of the next. The radical invents the views. When he has worn them out, the conservative adopt."

"Peace by persuasion has a pleasant sound, but I think we should not be able to work it. We should have to tame the human race first, and history seems to show that that cannot be done."
