Ebola.

I will never forget when a customer tried to tell me that the person who died from Ebola here in the US was from Africa. That he was an African. And I wanted to tell him that not every Black person he sees is from Africa. Just like how not every Korean, Japanese, Chinese or Thai person is from Asia. Just like not every white person is from England.

Maybe, if we taught critical thinking, proper grammar, how to back up what you say with facts and not just have a baseless opinion, etc... Maybe, the world wouldn't be such a mess.

And, no, I don't care that he was a man from Africa. That is completely beside the point. We always say people come from "Somewhere Else," ESPECIALLY if they aren't WHITE. Its the notion that just because someone has dark skin that automatically makes them from "Somewhere Else." That if someone has different characteristics they must be from "Somewhere Else."

I wore Hijab for several months and I was asked all the time "Where are you from?" and was met with "No, I mean, where were you from originally?"

The notion that differences mean "Somewhere Else."

YOU can't be from here, because YOU are different.

And that bothers me.

Kill Her

Today's song is by a Hong Kong rock group called Ping Pung. The song is called "Kill Her." Not sure why, as I haven't read the lyrics. I just like the music and it always makes me think of ghosts or murder (wonder why?).

Great song though, as introduced to me by Pomegranate. ^_^

Kill Her - Ping Pung

Feel free to check out some of Ping Pung's other music. They are actually really good. Often transitioning between heavier stuff and some soft, almost lilting, music. I really like them!

Disturbed

I believe in watching (and reading) things that disturb me, because if I am not disturbed by watching a little girl lying in the street after being run over by two vans whose drivers didn't care and passersby just stare and walk on or seeing a tiger trapped and dying of starvation/dehydration while its habitat is destroyed just miles from it or reading the numbers tattooed on the arm of a Jewish child in a concentration camp then I am no longer moved to action. I am no longer the person I want to be if these things no longer bother me.

So if these images disturb you, if they tear at your heart and eat at you don't just sit there. Don't just stand by and allow yourself to become desensitized to the horrors that go on around you!

The Teahouse

While I was in Maryland/DC, L.E.D and I went to this place called "Reynolds Tavern" which also happens to be a teahouse. It is not only a really cool historical building, on the circle, but it also has some very interesting and slightly old fashioned things.

We decided on the Afternoon Tea Special for both of us. This included a bottomless pot of tea and various snacks that varied depending on what type of special you picked. We picked the Sweet Tea and Savory Tea.

The Sweet tea came with a pot of Sencha Kyoto Cherry Rose Festival, which is a sweeter tea that we chose based solely on its name. It turned out to be a great choice! It also came with small sweets: a lemon square, a piece of caramel pound cake, a piece of plain pound cake, a heart shaped sugar cookie, a heart shaped lavender infused sugar cookie, two different tarts (which I can't remember the names of) and a scone of our choice. We both picked a cranberry orange scone, which was heaven with fresh whipped cream and strawberry preserves.

The Savory tea came with a pot of Lapsong Souchong, which was suggested to us by our waitress. Lapsong Souchong is a very strange tea, partially because it has a very smoky flavor. To be honest it smelled (and slightly tasted) like bacon. Donnie would've approved. It also came with small savory treats: a Shepard's pie tart, a mushroom truffle tart, two ham finger sandwiches, two egg salad finger sandwiches, two cucumber and cream cheese finger sandwiches and a few other things I can't quite remember.

The restaurant played 40's and 50's music, which was very nice. Including some songs from my favorite musicals. One of the many songs we heard was about Indiana, which made us giggle since we had driven from Indiana to get to Maryland.

There were a lot of interesting things about this place. It was very old-fashioned, which made me happy as I like historical and old-fashioned things. We had honey (with a fancy honey dipper) and actual sugar cubes with our tea. And yes, I did say "One lump or two?" while holding a cube of sugar in some gorgeous little sugar tongs. Our cups were Wedgewood China cups and our tiny tea spoons had little tea cups and tea pots on the ends.

It was definitely worth the visit and I can't wait to go there again. The only thing that we didn't get to try was their "Love Potion #9" which was an alcoholic beverage we decided to save for another trip.

If you find yourself in the Annapolis area, make sure to visit "Reynolds Tavern" on the circle.

Dancing in My Chair

Sometimes, at random moments, I will passionately miss the 90's. As in the decade, the 1990's. Seriously, I don't know why. The 90's had some horrible fashion trends and some less than good music, but it was my childhood and I embrace that.

Its at these moments that I go back to the music I listened to, or discovered in the 90's. Or I watch some clips from my favorite shows. Or I sit and just dance in my chair to the music I loved (when I could listen to it that is, a certain man [who shall remain nameless] forbade the listening of certain music that wasn't Christian). I listen to 90's pop, Christian music, Michael Jackson, Celine Dion and Whitney Houston. I think about Doug, the Rugrats, All That, Wishbone, Are You Afraid of the Dark and Cousin Skeeter. I read excerpts from "Saddle Club", "The Boxcar Children" and "Goosebumps" (which I didn't read until I was in my late teens).

And sometimes, because I'm rediscovering my childhood, I discover new music and I fall in love with a decade when everything seemed so much more simple! At least to me. Do you remember when Britney was at the top of her game? Songs like "Lucky" and "Oops I did it Again"? Or "Big Butts"? We were the Nintendo players, the Mariah Carey lovers, the believers of Aliens and Y2K. We wore high tops and had crew cut hair. We were insane and believed in so much, hoped for so much.

I miss those times. I really do. I don't know why, because the 90's had its downsides too. Like any decade. Like any day. Like any life. But the 90's was my childhood. When I went swimming with my Aunt Carmen all summer. Or cleaned house with my Aunt Peggy, who would let me spend the night and watch Mork & Mindy in between homeschooling lessons.

I miss getting cappuccino for the first time and discovering how delicious it was. I miss running through the woods and pretending it was Narnia. I miss discovering "The Yellow Submarine" with my brother and all the movies my mom introduced us to. I miss falling asleep to Simon & Garfunkel at night and dancing with Hannah to Loggins & Messina. The 90's was my playground, my perfect time. My biggest worries were the boys I was crushing on and Y2K (which everyone was afraid of).

For New Year's Chris and I would stay up until midnight watching "Much Ado About Nothing" and "Henry V" with our family friend, Ivan, while eating pizza and teasing Ivan when he would cover his eyes during the bloody parts. We went to the Egyptian exhibit at the Children's Museum and rode our bikes up and down the gravel roads.

My mother taught me to read, inspired me to write, inspired a love of literature and writing, of exploring everything. She taught me that every moment is a learning moment.

I played with Hannah, my baby sister. She looked like Shirley Temple at 2. I took her outside and chased her all over the yard. At night she would kick me out of bed, even though she was 2 and I was 10. As a baby, I would feed her cheerios in her bouncy seat and sing her Simon & Garfunkel songs as lullabies. I would read books about Sacajawea and Sesame Street. She was my first experience with a baby (when I would've been old enough to understand it). And, in a way, she was my baby. I protected her, I dressed her up, I changed her diapers and fed her. I played dolls with her. And I failed her in many ways. And, in many ways, she is still my baby, even though she is 15 now.

Chris and I would race our bikes, try stupid stunts (like tying Chris to the back of my bike to help him run faster and "lose weight") and chopping wood. We chopped a lot of wood, fed and watered a lot of dogs. I forced him to play Barbie dolls with me and he drove me up a wall. We dressed up, we fought, we forgave each other and he is one of my best friends to this day.

I met my best friend, Sarah W., a friendship that has lasted us 13 years this year. We used to talk on the phone for hours and hours. We watched "Pocahontas" over the phone, because we didn't get to hang out in real life as often as we wished. We played Gordon Lightfoot as loud as possible and scream-sang along. We picked berries and ate them all, while sitting in a field of green and white. We played Legos and made up stories. We ran wild, wrote notes in our own secret language during church. She helped me fall in love with snakes. I helped her fall in love with Star Wars.

I believed in Jesus with all my heart. Believed there was some reason for all the pain, for all hard times. For all the deaths and the lies. The 1990's were beautiful to me, even though I had a step-father who abused my brother and my mother almost died on our bathroom floor. Even though I was sexually abused. Even though my grandparents died. Even though it was the last time I saw my father in person. The last I spoke to him on the phone. The last letter I received. I believed that a good and just God was going to make it all right. That He was polishing me like how a gem is polished with stones.

I wanted to be a doctor. I wanted to deliver babies in China, stop the abortions from happening. Protect the innocent. I wanted to be an actress and star in the movies I had seen. I wanted to be a writer. I wanted to be a civil rights activist. I wanted to be free. Dream my dreams, live my life. I wanted to be married and have 16 children that I would home-school. I wanted to be a missionary. I wanted to be loved.

Do any of those childhood dreams still hold sway? Can they still exist now that I'm older, wiser, and I know all that I know?

For your viewing pleasure, a song from the 1990's that I used to dance to, alone in my room.

That's right, "Livin' La Vida Loca" by Ricky Martin. And yes, I am that dorky.

Hua Tian Cuo

Today's song is by Wang Leehom or Leehom Wang. Not only is he talented, handsome and wonderful, but he was in my favorite Gackt movie ever! "Moon Child". And, to top it all off, this is my all time favorite song by him.

Hua Tian Cuo basically means "Mistake in the Flower Field". A beautiful title, truly! The video is pretty awesome too, because he can play old style Chinese instruments while singing of being in love and making mistakes! Got to love a man that can not only sing but play beautiful instruments too. Or at least I do!

For your viewing pleasures, "Hua Tian Cuo" by Wang Leehom

A Full Course Meal.

I suppose it is that time again, where I post something. I have been a little lax in posting the words of the day, partially because everything has been so crazy here. So, this is a short apology and a post just for you!

I'M SORRY! (See, short apology)

Now onto the rest of the post...

On today's menu we have as an appetizer:

Je Reviens by Kaolin as our song of the day. I heard these guys after a friend of mine on Facebook posted a status about them. I really like this particular song and I hope you do too!!

and we have for the main course:

Some interesting articles I have found recently. Some of them warm my heart and others make it grow cold as ice, but for now, let's start with some that warm the heart!

A Tabby cat named Zoe has adopted 3 abandoned BOBCATS. Everything is being done to protect the tabby and the bobkittens, and hopefully the bobkittens can return to the wild!

A teenager (allegedly obsessed with death) dug up a corpse in a private Jewish cemetery and hacked off it's foot. No word yet from the corpse's lawyers. ^^

Apparently the U.S. and China are in a Honey war... Well, isn't that a sticky situation (I know, that joke was terrible, but still funny)!
http://www.upi.com/Science_News/2010/04/30/Scientist-China-avoiding-honey-tariff/UPI-99381272637537/

and for dessert:

These are a few interesting bits that I found whilst stumbling around on the net. I hope you enjoy them as much I do!

Stephanie Metz creates wool sculptures. That's right, she takes wool and a felting needle and creates beautiful sculptures with it. I love the pictures of her work!

France, known as the Romantic Country, is home to a very bizarre statue. Born of the Renaissance, this statue is called Transi de René de Chalon. It is a replication of the decomposition of the human body, a skeleton with dried flesh hanging from its limbs and holding its own heart. It once held the REAL heart of the person it was created for (René de Chalon, Prince of Orange), but that has long disappeared.
http://atlasobscura.com/place/transi-de-ren-de-chalon

The picture that I am about to post is a new thing called the "bijini" It is the combination of jeans and a bikini. I would really like to know your opinions on it, as it seems really crazy to me. I kind of like it though. ^^

That's all for now, I plan on posting the words of the day tonight before I go to work. Hope everyone has a good day!!

The following is Disturbing

Okay, if you are tender hearted (or get queasy easily) like me, you might not want to read the following articles. If you care about what goes on in the world then you should read the following.

http://www.taliacarner.com/deadnewborningutter.html

http://www.expansions.com/ArticleTemplates/ArticleTemplate.cfm?ID=205

If you read the above articles then you now know about some horrible practices occurring in China. I don't even know what to say. I am in shock and horror and disbelief. I don't want to know this, but I do. I don't even know how to be up in arms about this, because reading these articles has left me with incredible amounts of dispirit and sadness. Sadness for the infants and sadness for a people that doesn't realize how ridiculous and horrible this is.

A few Quotes I really like
"Achievement of your happiness is the only moral purpose of your life, and that happiness, not pain or mindless self-indulgence, is the proof of your moral integrity, since it is the proof and the result of your loyalty to the achievement of your values."
Ayn Rand (Objectivist)

"Eloquent speech is not from lip to ear, but rather from heart to heart."
William Jennings Bryan (Lawyer)

and in honor of Women's History month a few quotes on women.
"No longer should women be denied the right to vote, no longer should women be treated as second class citizens, no longer should women not be allowed to be a citizen at all."
Ginny B. Waite (Female Politician)

"We women must listen to our inner voice. It is easier for women to do this as they are not afraid to say what they feel."
Indra Devi (a Disciple of Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya)

"Women who love women are Lesbians. Men, because they can only think of women in sexual terms, define Lesbian as sex between women."
Rita Mae Brown (Author)

And, because I COMPLETELY spaced African-American History Month (I usually don't forget it as it is my favorite month besides September)
"No other group in America has so had their identity socialized out of existence as have black women... When black people are talked about the focus tends to be on black men; and when women are talked about the focus tends to be on white women."
Bell Hooks (Author, Feminist)

"We need somebody who's got the heart, the empathy, to recognize what it's like to be a young teenage mom, the empathy to understand what it's like to be poor or African-American or gay or disabled or old - and that's the criterion by which I'll be selecting my judges."
Barack Obama (The First Black President)

"Genius is an African who dreams up snow."
Vladimir Nabokov (Novelist)

And a recipe for good measure!!

7-Up Apple Dumplings recipe

Fa-la-la-Follow the Yellow Brick Road!

Current mood: Breezy

Okay I couldn't resist that one partially because of the article I'm about to share with you right now!

Get this, in a Mountain Commune in Kunming (Southern China) there is a village where you must be 4'3" tall to get in. I'm not kidding, it's a village made completely of dwarves or "little" people. I don't know which is politically correct anymore. Not only that, but they dress up like fairy tale characters to bring in money from Tourism! "As small people we are used to being pushed around and exploited by big people. But here there aren't any big people and everything we do is for us," said spokesman Fu Tien.
Don't believe me? http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/article.html?Chinese_dwarves_set_up_their_own_village&in_article_id=745272&in_page_id=2

Rome, Italy: Mudslide caused by heavy overnight rains flooded the Sicilian city of Messina. At least 20 people were killed during the deluge and several cars and buildings were swept away. Another 40 people were hospitalized due to various injuries caused by the flooding. Several hundred people are seeking shelter in gyms and schools due to sudden homelessness.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33136687/ns/world_news-europe/

My favorite president (besides John Quincy Adams) Barack Obama met with his top Afghan war commander in Copenhagen, Denmark. The meeting took place privately aboard Air Force One on Friday for a talk the White House described as productive. Apparently they are trying to decide whether or not to send more troops to stomp out more Al Qaeda or to send only some to help out in Pakistan. Not only that, but Obama was in Denmark to place the United State's bid to host the 2016 Olympics Games.

So some guy named Enrique Gonzalez and his friend, Travis Gorman, apparently TATTOOED a GANG symbol on the prior's SEVEN YEAR OLD SON! He is not going to get a life sentence for this (under the Mayhem Charge), but does face a few years in jail for Cruel and inhumane treatment of a child.

A FIVE year old Texas Boy shot an 800lb. Alligator in the head, thus saving himself from being killed. Apparently he had been trained by his father since he was 4 years old to handle a gun and it came in handy when an 800lb Gator came onto their Texas property.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,559103,00.html

And last, but definitely NOT least, in India there were clusters of unhatched Dinosaurs Eggs found by geologists! The eggs were about 13-20cm in diameter and lying in sandy nests about 1.2m wide, under ash from volcanic eruptions.

And now, your song of the day!

And an extra video of Gackt, because it makes me giggle more than anything I've ever seen (well besides Debbie Reynolds being Princess Leia's [Carrie Fisher] mom... That makes me giggle very hard and I don't know why.)! Don't worry, it's subtitled in English so you know what he is saying. ^^

NEWS!

There is a lot of controversy in New York State today, because last night the Empire State Building was lit with the colors of Communist China, in recognition of their 60 years in power today. TVXQ is not disbanding

Current mood: Adored

This is great news for all the girls who love to fan girl over the boy band Tohoshinki (TVXQ) or Dong Bang Shin Ki (DBSK).

They just made a huge annocement stating they do not want to disband nor will they. They just had a recent concert at Tokyo Dome and it was sold out. They had a blast that.

They are looking forward to getting together at the end of the year for the end of the year concerts.

DBSK/TVXQ arived at Korea yesterday morning where they will be taking a break. Only for a little bit because they are going to China for a concert soon enough in the beginning of October. So look forward to that.

Xiah/Junsu even states that all five members want to grow with all their fans. He is so proud of all their fans.

Each Memeber even had a message for all the fans.

Max/Changmin: Please be careful not to get too tired this summer.
U-Know/Yunho: To everyone who couldn’t manage to come this year, let’s enjoy it together with Tohoshinki next year!
Xiah/Junsu: I want to do many more activities with fans in the future. Please look forward to it.
Hero/Jaejoong: I really want to do next year a-nation again really soon. I want to enjoy the stage with these five members again.
Micky/Yoochun: We want to perform a lot of songs in the future. We want to sing. That’s all.

All their activities in Japan are still going on. They will not make new activities until the lawsuit is over.

U-Know/Yunho promised to all the fans that they will meet again at next years a-nation.

So see no worries.
I have no doubt in my mind that these boys will not disband. They are going to stay strong and reach their goals and dreams together. Because they are more than band mates they are brothers.

So lets keep them all in our thoughts and wish them the best and safe travel.

Keep Strong EVERYONE <3

And please stay healthy.

This has been your news with Pomme-chan.

The Three Little Pigs (A K-Pop Fairy Tale) (a rough draft)

Current mood: Adventurous

Once upon a time, before the world knew the brilliance of hideto matsumoto, there were three little girls. These girls were named Sarai, Pomegranate and Fawny.

One day these girls decided to build themselves houses in various parts of the world. Sarai decided to build her house out of straw in China. Pomegranate decided to build her house out of sticks in Korea. And Fawny decided to build her house out of bricks in Japan.

Shortly after the completion of her straw house, Sarai heard someone calling outside.

"Little girl, little girl let me come in!" said the sexy voice. Sarai looked out the window and saw Jaejoong, of DBSK, dressed in a wolf costume.

Giggling to herself, she called back,

"Not by the hair on my chinny-chin-chin. Though I don't have any, I will not let you in!"

"Then I will huff," began Jaejoong.

"Yes?" replied Sarai.

"And I will puff," continued Jaejoong.

"Uh huh!" said Sarai.

"And I'll blow your house in!"

"Well, that was a bit of a disappointment. That will never do, I worked hard on this house!" cried Sarai.

"Then let me in!" replied Jaejoong, coming closer to the door and looking particularly cute.

"No."

"Then I'll blow your house in!"

And with a huff and a puff, Jaejoong sang one pure muiscal note that blew the house in.

With her house blown to smithereens, Sarai hopped on a train and fled to Pomegranate's house in Korea.

Pomegranate and Sarai were sitting in the living room of the stick house sipping on some hot cocoa when there was a sexy voice heard outside.

"Little girls, little girls let me come in!"

Pomegranate looked out the window and then looked at Sarai.

"You ran AWAY from him? God, I'd let him blow my house in and eat me any day!" with that Pomegranate flung open the door to her house and was promptly carried away by Jaejoong. The last Sarai ever saw of her, Pomegranate was kissing her captor and apparently quite content. However, Sarai was not content and hopped a train to Japan.

When she arrived at Fawny's brick fortress in Japan, she felt quite safe and decided it was okay to let her guard down. Apparently not, for right as she was getting settled in they heard a sexy voice saying,

"Little girls, little girls, let me come in!"

Fawn peered out the window of the brick house and said,

"Not by a non-existant hair on my mother-fuckin' chin!"

"Then I'll huff," began Jaejoong.

"You know, I thought it was going to be sexier when he started saying that." said Sarai.

"And I'll puff," continued Jaejoong.

"Well, dear. Never trust a man in a wolf costume. Even if he is Asian." replied Fawny.

"And I'll blow your house in!" finished Jaejoong.

"I'd like to see you try!" called Fawny, sitting back and turning up her J-Rock.

So Jaejoong, quite perturbed as he was looking forward to seducing three girls instead of just the one, huffed and puffed and let his musical note fly. But nothing happened.

"Is that the best you have?" called Fawny, clutching her sides and laughing.

So he tried again. And failed again. After about an hour, his throat started to get sore and he decided it was all a lost cause. Though this was not a complete failure of a mission, he still had a delicious Pomegranate waiting for him at home. With that thought he loped off.

And they ALL lived happily ever after. ^^

After note by the author:

This story is in no way meant for little children. EVER! lol. I would also like to point out that, with the exception of Fawny, I think we all wouldn't mind if Jaejoong just showed up to blow down the house and eat us. Well, all the females anyway... Another thing, I don't know if I like how this turned out, but I will re-write it and trim it up and then do it again. But this is to keep you occupied until that time! ^^
