An Experiment

In her song, "Xizi She Knows," Imogen Heap says something that resonates with me every time.

You're pretty damn good as you are.

That is something that seems to get lost in the shuffle of things sometimes. Like romantic relationships or friendships. We are never made to believe that we are "damn good" as we are. We are, in fact, made to believe that we aren't good enough. Ever. Because we aren't beautiful. Because we aren't smart enough. Because we aren't what someone wants.

Xizi, she knows, that once its gone, then its gone.

I think that is a metaphor for being damn good as you are. Once you change for someone else and you completely lose yourself, its gone. You may get back some modicum of what you were, but you'll never be fully YOU again. You've lost it. You've let it go.

You may be wondering what this has to do with the title of this blog, but bear with me a moment.

I talked about being hit on, in my last blog. About not being hit on because I'm intelligent or well-read (which, as Donnie pointed out, is never the reason anyone is hit on), but because I have rather large breasts and a so-so face (at least, in my opinion). About how it must be freeing to be completely covered, so that someone has no choice but to get to know you for who you are, instead of how you look.

Can you imagine, for a moment, what it would be like for no one to think your hair is a mess or your make-up is wrong? Or that you aren't wearing the latest styles, your butt is too big or too flat? Can imagine how nice that would be? Not to feel the pressure to please with skin and fashion?

I was talking to Donnie about it and he suggested I try it. Though, he did say he thinks I'll get ignored more than anything.

He suggested I try being covered and then write about the experience. And I think I'm going to do it. It falls into my desire to experiment with different religions as well. I am both excited and trepidatious.

Pros:
1. I'll get to experience a culture other than my own. One that I actually know a fair bit about.

2. I can write about the experiences, because I'll have a rather constant inspiration.

3. My husband supports me in whatever I choose to do.

Cons:
1. The last time I dressed as an Islamic woman (back when I was in high school) I brought the Klan out of hiding.

2. This experiment may have serious ramifications regarding my job, my social life and my family life.

3. I am really shy, so I may very well not gain anything from this experiment except heartache from all the ignorance and stupidity around me.

'Tis better to try and to fail, than to never try at all. How will I know what happens until I try it? Well, I can't. I can't know what will happen or who I will meet unless I try it.

This experiment will take preparation. Partially because I do not currently own a burqa, niqab, hijab or any other such covering. Partially because I need to define the boundaries for myself and a time frame. This experiment is going to take longer than a week or two. And partially, because this is going to take my full concentration and desire. I can't go into this experiment half-heartedly. I have to be fully behind it and fully invested before it will work.

In the meantime, I think I should do some more research into Islam. I need to re-read the Qur'an. I need to slowly wean myself away from Alcohol... Unfortunately. I need to re-read the Bible. If you are wondering about that please refer to my blog "The Christianity/Islam Dichotomy" (which you can find at the following link: http://saraicrazyblog.blogspot.com/2011/12/christianityislam-dichotomy.html). And I need to re-affirm who I am.

I am still searching for who I am, in the midst of all the insanity that is called Life. I am still young, so I have time to figure it out. Maybe this will change me. Maybe this experience will change who and what I am. Maybe it won't. I guess I won't find out until I do it.

I feel like I'm rambling a little so I will stop for now. Expect updates sometime in the near (or far) future.

She Knows

I follow Imogen Heap on Twitter, but apparently wasn't paying close enough attention to her musical posts. I discovered a few new songs from her and this has quickly become my favorite. I love the Chinese aspect to it. I love the sound of Imogen's voice. I love this one line "Pretty Damn Good As You Are." Why did I capitalize every word there? I don't know, I felt it all needed to be emphasized.

I wish I felt that I was pretty damn good as I am. All I know is that I am who I am and will be who I will be.

Enjoy!

Fried Eggs and Imogen Heap

My morning, so far (even though it is technically afternoon now), has consisted of a shower, some delicious fried eggs on toast (made by the most amazing husband-to-be, Donnie) and some interesting music I had never heard from the amazingly wonderful Imogen Heap.

I can't even really explain why all the sudden I wanted to listen to Imogen, but the next thing I knew I wanted to hear her. And then I was listening to rare music by her. I found myself at her website and almost got excited about maybe fulfilling one of my bucket list items. She is wanting someone to do a duet with her for Earth while she is touring. Unfortunately it is Australia and Mexico. And I am not in either one of those places. Though, right now, I want to be!

Currently I am listening to P.I.N. which I found on YouTube quite by accident. It has a very interesting sound. A lot of tribal drumming mixed with classical instruments like violins and other strings, plus piano. The effect is really cool so I suggest you go check it out!

Also I have been tweeting like a crazy person. I don't understand, but I like being able to say whatever I want, often within seconds of saying something random. Though, it is quite limited and I am not that into it, I kind of like it. I will probably post a bunch of the crazy tweets I have been posting, just to pass the time!

Anyway, that is all for now! Love and Fried eggs to you all! ^-^

Random things Crazy People Say

Current mood: Crazy

Sarai: *singing Imogen Heap* I'm dying to know, what's in your head.
Donnie: I'm dying to know what's in your appendix!
Sarai: Fingernails.

Donnie: I would fight a rabid hyena for your vagina!

Hannah: *confused look* But Jesus doesn't have a penis!

Sarai: Forgive me dictionary, for I have sinned and fallen short of the glory of Grammar.

Sarai: I can't go to hell because Satan still has a restraining order against me.

Sarai: THERE ARE NAKED WOMEN FALLING OUT OF THE WINDOWS!!
Trent: Where? I want one.

Sarai: I may or may not be having an asthma attack. May or may not.
Sarai's Mom: I'm thinking it's may.
Sarai: Really? Because I'm thinking it's September.

Sarai: Puberty makes my sister bitchy.

Trent: Now you do, and knowing is half the battle. The other half is violence.

Sarai: That was Harvey Keitel.
Sarai's Mom: I know.
Sarai: I've seen his penis.
Sarai's Mom: Thank you for that.

Trent: I am not amused and I'm a lover of irony. Which creates it's own form of sinister irony.

Judes: I tried to take a boobs-in-mirror pic, but it kept flashing

Judes: Yes... that's right. TWO crags.

Sarai: I actually said I'd never drink again, lol... when I was praying to the porcelain gods.

Sarai: Apparently I'm Ava Gardner.

Trent: LoL
Sarai: I'm glad I make you lol
Trent: Baby, you lol me like no one else

Sarai: Um, Look! A DISTRACTION!! *follows the distraction*

Trent: All Sarai heard in her addled head was something about breast-milk-omelettes and it drove her to run even faster.

Sarai: I have no appropriate responses for this situation.

Kid: Goat milk de la titties!

HELLO FANS!!

Current mood: Animated

Hello Everyone!!

Sorry I haven't written here in a while, been a little caught up with stuff going on in my personal life. But, I am back and better than ever. As you can see I posted a blog before this one. It is a story I wrote last night, I hope you guys enjoy it. I'm hoping to post more of my writing on here, so that everyone can read it. ^^

Also, I'm planning on starting up a news blog and a song of the day blog again. It's going to be a little hard to stay on top of, because I am SO DAMN SPACEY, but I will do my best. If anyone has any news to contribute, I would be more than willing to add it. Or if you have a song, that would be great too.

What I would really like is for everyone to send me their awkward questions at broken_rivers@hotmail.com so that I can start working on my ALL Awkward Questions episode. ^^

So, your song of the day is 2-1 by Imogen Heap. This song is from her newest album "Ellipse". It is a very deep song and I absolutely love it. So listen to it and let me know what you think!

Now, as for the news this is pretty much what I have right now:

*Marilyn Manson has the Swine Flu. He says that he is "Unfortunately" going to live.
*A woman gives birth to a baby boy after being implanted with the wrong embryo at a fertility clinic.
*The Death toll rises in the Philippines after a terrible tropical storm. So far 140 people are dead.
*Another woman gets pregnant whilst pregnant! She is carrying two babies, conceived at two different times! Don't believe me? Go to www.msnbc.com
*A 16 year old student was beaten to death outside of his school in Chicago. It isn't clear yet, what the exact circumstances are, but family members believe it was because of his refusal to join a gang.

That's all for now,
I'm Sarai and I'm as out as last week's egg salad.
